Lesson 15 ✨

the case for getting lost

Heyyyyyy business fam 👋

I want to encourage you to slow down your formulas and strategies today,

to get a little ✨curious✨ …

✨ lost ✨ even

Why?

You’re crushing it this week.

(or maybe you’re not? 👀)

but uhhhh

are you feeling a bit systematic? or stagnant? or too-fast paced?

or even somewhere in between?

get lost (for a little bit)

— your business Mom

1️⃣ A PROBLEM: life moves fast

UNLESS (✨nuance✨) you have a silver spoon feeding you,

most of us are running fast:

  • to a check

  • to our next big thing

  • to buy a house

  • to do the 45 things required to even TRY to buy a house

  • you get the idea

POV you running through life, trying your best

My parents always tell me:

“one day when {insert future event occurs}, you’ll look back and wonder where all the time’s gone

— your business Mom’s parents

and let’s be so real… they’re right.
(yes, mom—you read that right, y’all were right)

Life moves fast.

like, really fast.

2️⃣ A REALIZATION: perception is reality
(to an extent)

Yes, time moves fast.

Sometimes? Not as fast as it feels.

We do have some control over the speed.

How do we slow it down?

Let’s talk about it 😏

👀 after a word from our sponsor…

because your business Mom has bills to pay so she can keep sharing this free game 👀

Keep more of what you earn

Collective helps members keep more of what they earn — saving an average of $10,000 a year in taxes* — while taking countless hours of administrative work off their plates.

Your membership includes LLC and S Corp formation, payroll, monthly bookkeeping, quarterly tax estimates, annual business tax filing and more.

*Based on the average 2022 tax savings of active Collective users with an S Corp tax election for the 2022 tax year

3️⃣ THE SOLUTION: getting lost (responsibly)

As ironic as it sounds, you need to plan to get lost.

Being curious, going down rabbit holes, and the like are all a part of a NORMAL, human experience.

YET, we schedule our lives around often robotic, unrealistic parameters.

anyways,

you need to anticipate a recurrent need to get a little lost

  • in thought

  • in time

  • in your space

  • in a moment

  • in nature

WANDER.

🙄 OKAY BUSINESS MOM, HOW DO WE DO THAT?

💁🏻‍♀️ I’m so glad you asked.

FIRST,

You listen to your gut when you’re feeling a need to:

  • check out

  • explore something

  • have a moment to turn that brain off

THEN,

Set an “end” date or time for this unscripted wandering.
Ensure you are keeping expectations realistic with your responsibilities.

AND,

check out, get lost, and vibe

For example:

It’s 9am and you’re feeling the need to write something creative. You have a meeting at 12pm and at least an hour of work you HAVE to do in between.

You could:

  • Set an alarm for 10am.

    • This is your notification to pause your wander

    • (not fun, but keeps you from being irresponsible)

  • CHECK OUT until 10am

  • At 10am, your alarm goes off. Are you satisfied with what you got into?

    • IF YES, move onto pre-meeting work with time to spare

    • IF NO, use 5 more minutes to outline your ideas, then move on to pre-meeting work until you can revisit this.

You got to get a little lost. You’re still handing business. You have a place to come back to when you have a moment to wander again.

The ✨NUANCE✨

Sometimes, it’s hard to actually schedule time to get lost.

When that happens, I suggest a CENTRAL REPOSITORY for ideas.

Essentially whether on the go or at home, you want a simple, central place to put all these ideas when time or life will not allow you to get lost.

If you’d like advice or a template for this, please “reply” and I’ll see what I can put together for ya.

Until next week,

Love,

your business Mom
