Lesson 2 šŸ«±

you feel it before you see it

My dears,

Since we last spoke, Iā€™veā€”

  • exchanged DMs with some members of our lilā€™ community

  • finalized a project for International Womenā€™s Day with Freelancing Females (live on March 8th, 2025)

  • learned so many new recipes (that the kiddos are loving!)

  • & most importantly, been thinking about our next lesson.

Strap on your seatbelts, and allow me to take you on a ride in my Train of Thought šŸš‚

all the way from a feeling to a sight in todays lessonā€”

ā€œyou feel it before you see itā€ šŸ«±

This one is a bit abstract, so we are going to use a real-life example from my second (successful) pregnancy back in 2021.

POV: processing šŸ˜…

1ļøāƒ£ THE PROBLEM

thereā€™s a change happening

and you canā€™t see it yet

My son is an icon.

(TW: heā€™s also a rainbow baby šŸŒˆ so my heart goes out to all the parents who know what I mean)

When I first found out I was pregnant again, I took two more tests in pure shock.

Then, I quickly accepted the situation and went to convince my husband of the same surprising news: our baby girl was getting a sibling, not a puppy as requested šŸ¶

The first several months were textbook healthy pregnancy. Great vitals, exercising often, and MAN did I rock that nutrition after everything I learned the first time.

YETā€”

I started to get REALLY tired. Not pregnant tired. Uncontrollably tired.

My hunger was insatiable, even though I was only growing belly (while the rest of my muscle and adipose tissue started to fade).

SPOILER: the baby is now an even larger toddler; strange creatures, kids šŸ˜†

I ā€œlookedā€ great. My labs were ā€œcleanā€ and I had no other concerning markers.

Something just FELT wrong. Why was I so tired? How big could this baby get and still be healthy? I was at a loss.

Instead of trusting my gut and advocating for myself, I denied what I FELT and assumed I was fine. I kept eating for two (and some CHANGE, honey) and kept saying ā€œthanksā€ every time I got a clean bill of health.

I couldnā€™t see the problem, so maybe there wasnā€™t one in the first place šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

2ļøāƒ£ A REALIZATION

what Iā€™m feeling is finally visibleā€¦

and now itā€™s too late

One visit changed it all.

šŸ‘Øā€āš•ļø ā€œYou have gestational diabetes.ā€

šŸ’šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø ā€œWHAT? Iā€™ve lost like 30 pounds how do I have diabetes?!ā€

That hunger? My son was stealing all my nutrients. I was hungry because I wasnā€™t reaping the benefits of my food.

I had to take a whole new approach to eating for my sake, and to keep my healthy baby that wayā€”healthy.

This type of diagnosis can be considered ā€œinevitableā€ and the goal of this lesson is NOT to shame you for your health.

Iā€™ve been there. Sometimes your body is just going through it and thereā€™s nothing you could have done differently.

In this case, however, it was clear. Had I spoken up early on about these symptoms, the months of stress and glucose tests might have been avoided. If nothing else, we would have caught it sooner and mitigated the effects I was dealing with.

The diabetes was gone a few months after delivery (hence ā€œgestationalā€), however the long-term effects of it are something Iā€™m still recovering from today.

šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø DISCLAIMER:

I am not a medical professional. This is not medical advice. Talk to your doctor about medical concerns. I am just your business Mom. Thank you.

me triple reminding you to talk to your doctor, not me (for legal purposes) šŸ˜‡

This situation often happens in life, and in business.

You FEEL like something is off with your job. You can FEEL the tension in the air.

ā€œProfits are upā€

Oh, maybe you were over-thinking it. You keep your head up and ignore that daily gut punch of anxiety.

šŸ‘©ā€šŸ’¼ ā€œToday, we regret to inform you we are laying off 1/3 of the workforce.ā€

šŸ’šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø ā€œWHAT? I thought profits were up and the leadership team just got raises?!ā€

That feeling in the air? Secrets and shady behavior.

Your feeling was there weeks before you could SEE the effects of this situation.

3ļøāƒ£ THE SOLUTION

acknowledge, investigate, file for the record

How do we combat this?

  • Live in fear? No, thatā€™s tired.

  • Freak out about every passing anxiety or paranoid thought? No, you might actually be trippinā€™.

Insteadā€”

When you get that gut feelingā€¦investigate it.

Take these 3 steps.

  1. Acknowledge the feeling. It might be worth something.

  2. Investigate the feeling and surrounding circumstances. Could something ELSE in your life be contributing to this feeling or does it feel pointed at one direction?

  3. File these concerns. If they start to add up, take reasonable, calm precautions in case that feeling becomes a reality.

Ultimately, the problem will become visible whether you catch it early or get slapped in the face with the outcome.

Trust your gut enough to hear it out when itā€™s screaming for your attention.

POV: you taking this advice

4ļøāƒ£ BONUS - use your network

SOMETIMES, even if you do all of the steps above, you may still be scared or unsure how to move forward.

Lean on your people.

Know who might be able to help you dissect a pattern? Your best friend who knows you better than anyone.

Wondering who could help you determine if youā€™re paranoid or onto something? A trauma-informed, open-minded therapist who has the time today.

Not on good terms with your people? Try Google, a consultation call with an expert, or even an online forum.

And no matter which route you travel for help, remember to trust your gut about the advice youā€™re receiving and keep an eye out for red flags and false friends.

Ultimately, take everythingā€”including your own gut feelingsā€”with a grain of salt.

If you know what this is from, we can be besties šŸ’˜

šŸ‘‹ Until next weekā€¦

Love,

your business Mom
