Heyyyyyyy business fam.
Did you miss me? π«£

Sorry I couldnβt make it to you with a lesson.
I was caught in a Perfectionism Freeze Ray

Dr. D finally had an invention pan out, and I was the target π
That darn thing got me good!
The quote above makes sense when you hear it in my accent.
(see photo from my childhood below for accent reference π)
I had this grandiose, ridiculously pointed lesson planned.
That lesson got so off course, it will probably never see a βPublishβ button.
I was doing the ABSOLUTE most, and quite frankly missed the mark anyway.
Why?
I was trying to make it perfect.
I had a really strong point I wanted to drive home for you, the reader.
I fixated, redrafted, scrapped, and rewrote until I had to just step away.
But luckily for you, (business) Moms are really great at turning challenges into a lesson.
So this week, I bring to you a new wisdom and a declaration π
Iβm tired of being a day late, & a dollar short.
I wonβt let it happen again (hopefully π€).
1β£ A PROBLEM: youβre brilliant
You (yes, itβs actually me, just walk with me here!!) π
had a brilliant plan
set a goal with the proper buffers in place.
planned your time accordingly
started doing great work
and got ahead of scheduleβ
only to find yourself off course.
Suddenly youβre exhausted, out of budget or time, and staring at a βdue dateβ set for yesterdayβ¦ or several yesterdays ago.
You put so much intention into the work.
You thought you were out here making the next masterpiece!

POV YOU REALLY THOUGHT, HUH?
To be fair, it was brilliant.
WHAT HAPPENED?! π
You were doing TOO MUCH (distracting fixation) and NOT ENOUGH (focused work).
Itβs like spending an hour wiping down your kitchen cabinets and only 2 minutes washing the sink full of dishes.
Like YEAH, your cabinets sparkle π€©
β¦but your sink is still half full of dishes and itβs time for your next meeting.
Youβre late, and your available time to expend on this task is cut short.
And you only came down to wash the dishes. How did we end up on cabinet detail?
2β£ A REALIZATION: thoughts β reality
Just because it should work in theory doesnβt mean it will work in practice.
Theoretically I SHOULD be able to finish this perfect, awe-inspiring 25th edition of my newsletter over the weekend so I can just βget it right.β
In practice, my car broke down and completely threw off my plans, even more-so my schedule.
(Someone should have reminded me that another shoe will always drop, huh?)
Your βperfectβ idea or optimized solution sounds great.
It might even work!
Itβs not, however, a guaranteed βsaveβ to whatever challenge youβre solving.
You canβt just stop with solid, planned schedule.
You have to allow for recalibration. Scratch that! reCALCulation.
3β£ A SOLUTION: RECALCULATE
You ever seen an old-school early 2000s-core GPS system?
You know the one that cost $$$, didnβt update, and wasnβt on your phone?
For my younger readers, a glimpse into the past:
Itβs pretty simple.
We often say we will do something and then:
totally forget
do the opposite
fail to completely do the thing
My solution? Recalculation, in every scenario or effort that went left.
As people, we are often quick to throw out promises, goals, or ideas.
Take 5 minutes each week to recalculate:
1. Take stock of the things you want, need, and said you would do.
2. Identify you recent actions
3. Discern if those actions will likely lead to the outcomes from #1
4. For any actions that are working, keep them going.
5. Wherever you have a (MIS)match, RECALCULATE by adjusting your approach.
Nuance β¨ A RANT:
Q3 has been a LOT.
Currently, Iβm:
tackling complex technical hurdles
recalculating in my own life as we enter the last part of this year
planning some AWESOME things for when my schedule allows
embracing the changing winds of fall π
praying for everyone
because letβs be honest
weβre all going through it
each of us has at least one monumental βSOMETHINGβ right now.
In order to grow, I need direction.
Feedback is my super power π¦Έπ»ββοΈ
Itβs the only way I grow (and get to share lessons with you all each week!)
Share any feedback you have here, or just help me out with the question below π
What time on Thursdays do you want to hear from me?
βοΈ donβt say I never asked!
For now, putting my head back in my laptop (temporarily, I promise!) and knocking out my biggest challenges of the year (MY LIFE) thus far πͺ
See you soon.
Until next week,
you can take a break and the world wonβt fall apart,
your enemies are one thing, but your jealous βfriendsβ are more dangerous,
& βsweet dreams are made of this; who am I to disagree?β ππ»
Love,
your business Mom π
