Lesson 5 🤷🏻‍♀️

ok. and?

My dear, sweet business family —

I’ve heard through the grapevine that my lessons are tough 👀

The grapevine is my readers 👀 and I hear you.

To be fair, you all seem to understand this toughness allows me to get these lessons across with all the warmth and brutal honesty that only a mother can give 😉

Now, I must prepare you.

If you thought Lesson 4 was tough…

THIS WEEK IS TOUGHER 🤓

I’m going to dive straight in (before I lose you) for this week’s important lesson—

ok. and?

- your business Mom

1️⃣ THE PROBLEM 🧐
you’re stuck at the source

People are naturally reactionary.

From birth, we do this odd thing where we take in the environment, react without remorse, and just wait for something to change.

POV—life caught you off guard

That’s fine if you’re the kid above, but as we age, this makes life much more difficult to handle.

In a single day, you might face

  • insurmountable obstacles

  • deep regret

  • elation

  • joy

  • awe

Simply reacting will have you ending the day with a sense of exhaustion from that emotional rollercoaster

🎢 ← like this 👇

ENCOUNTER SOURCE OF STIMULUS

INITIATE REACTION

lather, rinse, repeat, all day long.

AKA you’re getting stuck at the source, only moving past it when a new source of stimulus comes along.

DISCLAIMER - IF YOU NEVER FACE THIS, CONGRATULATIONS ON FULL EMOTIONAL MATURITY AND AN UNSHAKEABLE GROUNDING PRACTICE 🥳

Now, for the everyone who remains, (including me!),

let’s move forward with the insights 💗

Reader’s note - these insights take time to implement and are a daily practice. I still have to remind myself to do this regularly. (see how I’m adding more love to the harsh?)

2️⃣ A REALIZATION 🧠
you’re quite literally in control

You woke up early.

Checked off the whole morning routine (minus the ice facial IYKYK).

And then. The dreaded—

  • traffic jam

  • email

  • rude coworker

  • < insert thing that always screws up your mood >

THE DAY IS RUINED.

You’re fuming and can’t wait to forget all this tonight with your favorite pastime.

Heading into a deep sleep, still mildly irritated, you hope tomorrow nobody will try you.

3️⃣ A SOLUTION ✨
Adopt the “ok. and?” mindset

Easy to understand, and difficult to put into practice.

THE FORMULA: R3

  1. RECOGNIZE that you’re reacting to a difficult stimulus

  2. REALIZE that you have the most control on HOW you react here

  3. REACT (with intention) so you can move forward.

THE “APPROACH” (are we retaining these lessons? 😉)

  • Start paying attention to yourself, so you can ACTUALLY tell you’re triggered before you start to spiral

  • Reflect and document your experiences, so you can build on them

    • journaling, video diaries, and voice notes alike—as long as you do it

  • Repeat the prior bullets until this process feels normal

  • Then, question everything.

An Example for my “learn by doing” readers ✨

ASK:

  1. Is this trigger even valid? If no, move on
If YES - ok. and? what’s next?

  2. Can I change this situation? If no, move to 4.

If yes - ok. and? how and when can I change it? Get on that.

  3. Do I need help to accomplish this? If no, go do it.

If yes - ok. and? who can I ask?

  4. What is out of my control?

    List it.

    Accept it.

Can someone else control it? ok. and? see if you can reach out to them

  5. I JUST WENT THROUGH SO MUCH ANXIETY?

    ok. and?

    THAT WAS SO STRESSFUL

ok. and? use the tools at your disposal (or help from others) to calm down, lock in, and take back control of your day.

YOU DID IT. You got through being stuck.

Be proud. Smile. Put your focus back on your purpose.

4️⃣ NUANCE is OOO 🧖🏻‍♀️ 💅 🏝️
She will return next week 😉

(after the ClickUp implementation giveaway concludes)

Until next week,

smart advice from Cristina Jerome that revolutionized the end of a bustling q1 for me:

🧡: meditate
🧡: clear your closet of clothes that no longer fit you
🧡: forgive yourself for what you didn’t accomplish in q1
🧡: order take out
🧡: delete old text message threads
🧡: delete your cart on that fast fashion website
🧡: call your mom, auntie or sister
🧡: post the content you’ve been sitting on

Love,

your business Mom
